TITLE: Split Second

COPYRIGHT: 2/11/14
TYPE: young adult
PAGES: 360
SERIES:  yes
2. Split Second

REASON FOR READ:
I absolutely loved this first book and it was a top 5 in 2014 so when I found out they had a sequel to the 1st book I had to absolutely read the second.

SUMMARY (from Goodreads):
Life can change in a split second.

Addie hardly recognizes her life since her parents divorced. Her boyfriend used her. Her best friend betrayed her. She can’t believe this is the future she chose. On top of that, her ability is acting up. She’s always been able to Search the future when presented with a choice. Now she can manipulate and slow down time, too . . . but not without a price.

When Addie’s dad invites her to spend her winter break with him, she jumps at the chance to escape into the Norm world of Dallas, Texas. There she meets the handsome and achingly familiar Trevor. He’s a virtual stranger to her, so why does her heart do a funny flip every time she sees him? But after witnessing secrets that were supposed to stay hidden, Trevor quickly seems more suspicious of Addie than interested in her. And she has an inexplicable desire to change that.

Meanwhile, her best friend, Laila, has a secret of her own: she can restore Addie’s memories . . . once she learns how. But there are powerful people who don’t want to see this happen. Desperate, Laila tries to manipulate Connor, a brooding bad boy from school—but he seems to be the only boy in the Compound immune to her charms. And the only one who can help her.

As Addie and Laila frantically attempt to retrieve the lost memories, Addie must piece together a world she thought she knew before she loses the love she nearly forgot . . . and a future that could change everything.

THOUGHTS/OPINION:
It didn't have the magic that the first one have. That being said I enjoyed the 1st one so much it doesn't surprise me that it didn't have the magic the first one did. The book over all was still good and still a fascinating world that was created. The characters are interesting and for the most part grow and mature. It was hard keeping in mind the version we saw in book 1 didn't actually happen so it got confusing at times especially when I had such a long break between books. I think the ending was okay it wasn't really a cliff hanger and yet it wasn't exactly closed so I would like to know and see if another book is going to come back out or if the author is thinking of wrapping up this story line. It felt like at times the gifts or powers were almost too powerful if that made sense. How is it that these teenagers can do things adults can't do and better and growing from it and no one knows?
Now it might seem like I am bashing on this book, please know that I am not. I did enjoy it. I like the world created and the people. I enjoyed seeing the "other" choice as it was and I liked learning how Laila would restore memories and why Addie's powers were changing. Conner was fascinating and seeing Trevor in a different light was interesting. This is still a series that I would recommend if you enjoy YA books!

THINGS I LIKED
I liked Addie's alternative world. Considering the first time we saw what would have been and I have to say I liked seeing the other side the what if I had chosen the other choice which I guess ultimately she does.
I enjoyed learning more about Laila and other kids that are not Norm.
Conner was a treat and his twist was very interesting.

THINGS I DIDN'T LIKE
The switch of characters this time was harder to keep up with. We went from Addie to Laila and back and at times it.
While Laila's gift/talent was interesting it was also disturbing and I have to admit hooking back up with the ex boyfriend who used you to help you get something doesn't equal good to me.
The whole "Big Brother" thing was annoying.

FINAL GRADE: 4 stars out of 5

Would you recommend this story? While it isn't as good as the first one I did enjoy it. I think this is a great series for YA and I would recommend it to people who enjoy reading this kind of book.

Is this a part of a reading challenge?
