My Favorite Things ~ Week 16

We are week 16 episode 29. I have been taking a break from blogging due to a few things. Still wrestling with illness and the lingering sinus infection. Add to it my stupid air conditioning decided to stop working last weekend and I've been without ac in KC for over a week now (it's not pretty folks) I finally broke down and bought a portable unit (not a window unit) but a portable unit to move around until we can either afford to pay for a new unit 7k or move into a new place by affording to sale the old place which sucks b/c the old place is... well let me just put it this way do you remember that old movie that stared Tom Hanks called Money Pit

Yeah well that's what I live in right now. No matter what I fix or do I keep having to fix another thing or put out another metaphorical fire of a crisis in another area. So I'm half tempted to cut my loses and runaway to Mexico and open a bar on the beach... wanna join me?

Any who enough of my woes let's move onto something way more entertaining.

NERD stuff
have you seen this video

First off I have to admit that anyone who can do these dances with this much rhythm is awesome add to it in full costume and you just became my hero... serious than add to it as an incredible and now I love you.
This begged the question or at least it did of me how many hours do you spend on Youtube with videos either like this or dancing cats or snowboarding dogs. Or you know whatever? My biggest problem with youtube are fan videos. You know what I'm talking about videos that fans made of their favorite show or characters set to music that they think totally describes the scene or what they want from the situation. I enjoy them I think because they are like little movies. The vines videos are almost too short for me. 5 seconds or 10 at most and poof then they repeat and it's over. But most Youtube videos are a good 3 to 5 minutes depending on the author and they entertain me for hours. Pick a song and I guarantee I can find you at least 10 videos from 10 different fandoms with a different take on the same song.
For example take the songs
A Thousand Years by Christina Perri
or Say Something by A Great Big World
and I can find you a video in the:
Hunger Games fandom
Supernatural fandom
Pretty Little Liars fandom
Wolfblood fandom
Sherlock fandom
OUAT fandom
Arrow fandom
Avengers fandom
Harry Potter fandom
Chuck fandom
and well I think you get the point...

I LOVE YOUTUBE plus have of the fan videos I find on youtube are 20 times better than some of the original video trailers to begin with.

PERSONAL
I am not doing crap with no ac I have been basically sitting on my booty watching TV and netflix doing absolutely nada. Trying to remain cool. But I did work on reading done and cleaned up my Kindle which is super exciting! I didn't even know you could organize those (I have an original Kindle which was out before they were cool so take that all you tech people) this is me sticking my tongue out at you. I did finish my 100 letters to me which was a pretty awesome project that I will save for you next week since I am house sitting this week and I would love to post pictures of it in it's complete form instead of just talking about it which never does it justice. So I will save that juicy wonderfulness for next week. Other than that nothing too new to report in this section. Hoping next week will have more yummy goodness for you.

TV SHOWS
Well this has been a week of catch up with the TV Shows from PLL (Pretty Little Liars) to Kill Joys to Dark Matter to wrapping up Wallander (BBC version) to I guess that's it we haven't really watched anything else
So I guess I will start with the first on the list Pretty Little Liars... For a #SummerofAnswers this has really been a #SummeroffrustrAstion my goodness I am really getting sick of the same old stupid mistakes the girls keep making. I mean how many times do we have to rush into a situation without calling the coops? How many times do we have to do drugs Spencer? How many times do we have to think we can out smart A? And how many times do we the watchers get promised to find out who A is only to be told nope psych just playing before we walk? I am seriously not even sure why I watch other than there is nothing else on Tuesday nights that hold my attention. Seriously I fast forward through half of this show and roll my eyes through the other half. Nothing surprises me and irritates me as much as this show. Apparently we will know who Charles is in 2 more episodes but I doubt that.
On a happier note I LOVE THIS SHOW and pray with all the wishes of a 1000 ponies and knives this show doesn't get canceled because it is the bomb diggity in my book which sadly means it probably has a death wish or a threat hanging over it. Cursed is thy middle name. It is an action, comedy, friendship, science fiction, family that live on a ship named Lucy who favors John I mean come on. They are bounty hunters too what could be wrong with a show like this. Add in missions, lies, secrets, doctors, sex, hawt men, brothers, and a past and BOOM you have Killjoys. Please please don't Almost Human this show!

Dark Matter on the other hand is one of those few shows I can either take or leave. It either has a really good episode where I'm like OMG this show is AWESOME or it has an episode where I could care less. Last week's episode was a care less episode. We got to learn about a few of the crew and well to be honest I wasn't that blown away by any of it and really didn't care. It didn't make me more invested in them or connect to any of them it just made me shrug my shoulders and go okay so what. Now it makes me wonder about 3 of the crew are actually really good guys forced to do bad things b/c of a crappy situation but does that mean then the other 2 that we didn't learn about are really bad guys who are just that? How's that going to work out? And do I care enough to stick around and find out?

So I wrapped up the 3rd series of Wallander and Damn these shows are dark and deep and depressing I mean my goodness you need a deep drink, shower and sleep after watching them. No wonder they never give the man a HEA which is sad because I really want him to have one. He deserves to be happy DAMN IT. Also Tom is no longer in any episodes after series 2 for those of you that care. But by then you are kind of hooked on Wallander himself and his depressing as crap life so you man up and sit it out. I seriously have no idea how many series there are but I am not certain if I can take any  more dark police crap. I miss my Death in Paradise DI Richard Poole Speaking of which did I ever tell you how crappy that was?!?!
Let's save that for another day...

MOVIES
Apparently my mother had never seen Madagascar the movie and I wanted to see the Penguin movie from Madagascar but she was asking way too many damn questions about them so I made her watch the original just stop the questions. And boy was I glad we did because it's a cute movie. I actually forgot how much I enjoy this one. Its cute and funny and well just a good over all family movie. I highly recommend it.

MUSIC
Say Something by A Great Big World b/c hey we talked about it earlier

BOOKS

Title: Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter
Author: Seth Grahame-Smith
Released: 2010
Summary:
Indiana, 1818. Moonlight falls through the dense woods that surround a one-room cabin, where a nine-year-old Abraham Lincoln kneels at his suffering mother's bedside. She's been stricken with something the old-timers call "Milk Sickness."

"My baby boy..." she whispers before dying.

Only later will the grieving Abe learn that his mother's fatal affliction was actually the work of a vampire.

When the truth becomes known to young Lincoln, he writes in his journal, "henceforth my life shall be one of rigorous study and devotion. I shall become a master of mind and body. And this mastery shall have but one purpose..." Gifted with his legendary height, strength, and skill with an ax, Abe sets out on a path of vengeance that will lead him all the way to the White House.

While Abraham Lincoln is widely lauded for saving a Union and freeing millions of slaves, his valiant fight against the forces of the undead has remained in the shadows for hundreds of years. That is, until Seth Grahame-Smith stumbled upon The Secret Journal of Abraham Lincoln, and became the first living person to lay eyes on it in more than 140 years.

Using the journal as his guide and writing in the grand biographical style of Doris Kearns Goodwin and David McCullough, Seth has reconstructed thetrue life story of our greatest president for the first time-all while revealing the hidden history behind the Civil War and uncovering the role vampires played in the birth, growth, and near-death of our nation.

Thoughts:
I have to admit this is a recent read for me and I actually did the audio book but then went out and bought the physical book because I enjoyed it so much. This book surprised me in a lot of good ways and that's saying something now and days. It is a rare day when a book especially an audio book can suck me in so much that I don't want to leave my car because I want to know what is going to happen next but this book did just that. The author did such a great job at weaving in the "journals" of Abraham and the history of this fascinating man's stories that I was shocked that I found myself going sure that could work. And weeks later I am still talking about it to people and telling them you have got to read this book. That is not something that I do very often. The way the journal, history and telling of the story are put together I have to say that I am thoroughly impressed with this writer that I went out and picked up his 3 other books. Some things I liked:
I have no idea where to start. I loved how the writer weaved seamlessly the telling of Abraham's life into him actually hunting vampires to the point where I was like well... that could have happened. I enjoyed it immensely.
I liked the concept its not something I would have put together and it was a pleasant surprise. As I put in the reason for reading this had 2 outcomes it could have been really good or bad. Lucky for me this turned out really well and I enjoyed it.
The characters were very interesting including the completely made up one Henry and I enjoyed him enough I went out and got his own book just because I enjoyed how much of a role he played in Abraham's story.
THINGS I DIDN’T LIKE
My main complaint throughout the story is the constant counting as an audio book I have no idea what the counting was for or what it was about. But they were constantly counting from 5 or 2 or 3 and it wasn't chapters b/c they still made sure to read me the damn chapters as well.
Also reading me the footnotes at the precise moment of the footnotes is very jarring and took away from the freaking telling of the story and I didn't like it (just a pet peeve of mine) it could've waited until the end or wasn't actually needed nor necessary for a fiction novel.

FAVORITE ACTOR
Since I've done a few different actors I think this week I will go with Eion Bailey he's an actor on a few things but my favorite thing that he's been on is OUAT (Once Upon A Time) He was August Booth AKA well I won't give it away for those of you who haven't gotten that far in a watch of the show. But I was so happy when they brought him back shortly this season.

That's it for me folks this week its been real thanks for joining me for yet another awesome week on my favorites. As always I would love to hear from you on what you thought about this week, as well as, what some of  your favorite things are.
